A free random name picker wheel

SpinOfLuck is a fast, ad-free spinner for randomly choosing a winner from a list. Teachers use it to call on students, raffle organizers pick prize winners with it, and teams use it to settle decisions fairly. Type or paste your entries, hit spin, and one name is chosen at random. Your wheels are saved locally in your browser — no account required.

How to use the wheel

  1. Add your entries. Open the Entries tab and type one name per line. Use 'Name*N' to weight an entry (e.g. 'Alice*3' for triple chance).
  2. Customize the look. Pick a color palette, wheel shape, and per-name colors from the Settings and Colors tabs.
  3. Spin the wheel. Click the wheel or press the Space bar. Press F for fullscreen during presentations.
  4. Review the winner. The winner is announced in a modal. Optionally remove them from the wheel and spin again.

Frequently asked questions

What is a random name picker wheel?
A random name picker wheel is a tool that takes a list of names and randomly selects one by visually spinning a circular wheel divided into colored slices — one slice per name. The wheel decelerates and stops on a winner, making the choice feel fair and engaging. It's commonly used by teachers, raffle hosts, team leads, and streamers to make impartial picks in front of an audience.
What is SpinOfLuck?
SpinOfLuck is a free online random name picker. You add a list of entries, spin the wheel (or a bottle), and one is chosen at random. It works in any modern browser with no signup, no installation, and no ads.
Can I pick more than one winner per spin?
Yes. Open Settings and set 'Pick count' to 2 or more. The wheel will spin once for each winner, automatically excluding already-picked names, then show the full winner list at the end.
Is there a bottle spinner mode?
Yes. In Settings, switch the spinner mode from Wheel to Bottle. Names are arranged as colored seats around the perimeter and a bottle in the centre rotates and lands pointing at the winner.
Can multiple people join the same wheel online?
Yes. Click 'Host room' to start a multiplayer session — you'll get a 6-character code and an invite link. Anyone who opens the link picks a display name and joins the same wheel in real time. Only the host can spin; everyone watches the same animation and sees the same winner. Rooms auto-delete 24 hours after the host's last activity.
Is the wheel spin truly random?
Yes — and we go a step further. To ensure genuinely unpredictable results, this site does not use the standard Math.random() function. Instead, the wheel's physics are driven by crypto.getRandomValues(), a specialized, high-security function built into modern web browsers. This cryptographically secure function uses high-entropy sources from your operating system, like hardware timings, mouse movements, and keyboard delays, to generate truly unpredictable results. The visual rotation is purely cosmetic — the winner is selected up front and the wheel animates to land on it.
Can I weight some names more than others?
Yes. Add a multiplier with an asterisk: 'Alice*3' gives Alice three slices on the wheel, making her three times more likely to win than a single-entry name.
Are my entries and results saved?
Yes — your wheels, entries, custom colors, and spin history are saved automatically to your browser's local storage. Reload the page or come back tomorrow and they're still there. Your entries and winners never leave your device. The only thing we record on a server is an anonymous spin counter and your country (e.g. 'US', 'IN') so we can understand usage at a high level. See the Terms page for full details.
Can I set a custom color for each name?
Yes. Open the Colors tab in the side panel. Each unique name gets a row with a color picker; names without a custom color fall back to the active palette.
Can I share a wheel with someone else?
Yes. Click the share icon to copy a URL containing the encoded wheel. Anyone who opens the link is offered to import the wheel into their own browser.
Does it work on phones and tablets?
Yes. The interface is fully responsive and the wheel can be spun by tapping it. Fullscreen mode is also supported for presentations.
Is SpinOfLuck free?
Yes. SpinOfLuck is completely free. There are no accounts, no subscriptions, no ads, and no data collection.
