Do students need an account?

No. Only the teacher signs in, and only if they want lists and wheels to follow them between devices. Students only ever see the wheel on the screen. The wheel itself works with no account for anyone.

How do I save a class roster?

Open the wheel, type or paste the names, press the Lists button in the entries toolbar, give the list a name and press Save. It is now available on the wheel, in the team generator and in the pairing tool on any device where you are signed in.

What is stored, and who can see it?

Just the list name, the names you typed and an optional folder, kept in private storage that only your account can read. We recommend first names or initials, as the Safe for Schools page explains. There is no sharing between accounts.

Can I keep one list per class?

Yes, and that is the intended use. Save each roster under its own name and use the Move button on the dashboard to file lists and wheels into folders per class, so nothing gets mixed up between periods.

What if the roster changes mid-term?

Load the list onto the wheel, edit the names, then save it again under the same name and delete the old one from the dashboard. Wheels that already used the list are not affected until you load the new version.

Does the wheel remember who it already picked?

Yes. Each wheel keeps its own winner history, and with the Remove winner after spin setting on, students who have been picked are taken out of the running until you reset the wheel. If you save the wheel to your account, that history follows it to other devices.

Common uses

Random student picker for each period. Save a list per period. When the bell rings, open the wheel, press Lists, and put Period 3 on the wheel. Spin to pick a reader, a presenter or the next question.
Groups for a project. Open the team generator, press Saved lists and choose the same Period 3 roster. Split it into balanced teams of four without typing a single name again.
Lab partners and peer review. The pairing tool loads the same list and pairs students up, with an odd student grouped as a trio. Reshuffle until the pairs work and copy them to your slides.
Assign tasks or presentation slots. In the pairing tool's assign mode, load the roster as list A and a saved list of tasks or time slots as list B. Every student gets one, at random and without repeats.
Combined classes and clubs. Use Add to wheel to append a second roster to the first when two classes share a session, then save the combined list under its own name for next time.

Why a roster should be typed once

A class list is the most reused piece of text a teacher owns. It goes into the seating plan, the group generator, the name picker and the grade book, and every copy drifts a little. Saved lists give the roster one home. The wheel, the team generator and the pairing tool all read the same list, so when it changes you change it in one place.

The list is deliberately simple: names, one per line, with an optional weight if you use those on the wheel. It carries no colours, settings or history, because those belong to the wheel you build from it. Load it into a fresh wheel and you get a clean start; load it into last week's wheel and you keep that wheel's history.

From the wheel to teams to pairs

Picking a student, building groups and pairing partners are three views of the same roster. Each tool has a Saved lists button that opens the same picker, so the workflow is: press Lists, choose the class, go. Generated teams can be saved back as lists too, one per team, filed together in a dated folder, so Team 3 can be put on a wheel later to choose who presents.

None of this changes the classroom-safe defaults. The wheel still collects nothing from students, still needs no signup, and still runs entirely in the browser. Saved lists are a convenience for the adult at the front of the room.

Keeping classes apart

Folders on the dashboard hold both saved wheels and saved lists, so a class's roster and the wheels built from it sit side by side. Name folders the way you think about the timetable, Period 3 or Year 8 Science, and the Move button files anything into them in one step.

When a list is no longer needed, delete it from the dashboard or from the wheel's Lists popup. Wheels that used it keep their own copy of the names, so deleting a list never empties a wheel.
